How to Sew a Henry and Antoinette Cushion

You can never have to many cushions in my opinion, big, small, oddly shaped, they all instantly brighten and add character to a room.

Gary Irwin, Associate Editor at Prima shows us how he made his cleverly designed Henry and Atoinette Cushion.

I wanted a nostalgic feel with a character based design. A romantic entente between a dashing 19th century British soldier, Henry, and his French amour, Antoinette! I put one character on each side of the cushion.

How to make

  1. Start by cutting the lip and moustache shapes out of felt. Either sew or glue into position.
  2. Hand sew or machine stitch a line across the lips for definition. Cut a circle of black felt for the beauty spot and sew or glue in place.
  3. Cut two pieces of ribbon 8cm long for each side of the cushion. Sew one in place on each side and attach a decorative ‘medal’ to each.
  4. With right sides together, sew round three sides of the cover and then turn the right way out. Put in cushion pad and slip stitch the opening together.
