How to Make Button Heart Decorations
Have you got lots of buttons around your house and don’t know what to do with them all? Or maybe you fancy creating something for your home that is quick and easy to make… Well, you have come to right place as you will love this project!
These little button heart decorations are great to hang around your home as well as a great project to do for Valentine’s day!
Begin by gathering all your bits and bobs together! Doing this will help you to see exactly what you have and what works well together, especially when it comes to choosing the colours.
Now it is time to get your glue gun at the ready! When you start to apply your buttons to your polystyrene heart, think about the composition of each button. See what works best by trying out different sizes and colours next to one another. It is all about ‘trial and error’ but you will work it out the more and more buttons you glue on.
Top Tip! Smaller buttons are great for using round the edges of your polystyrene heart. They are also great for filling in small gaps.
Alternatively before you glue on your buttons, you could use paint to decorate your polystyrene heart with. This adds a bit more to the look of your heart decoration and brings out the colours of your buttons too!
Glitter can also look quite effective when using buttons. If you choose to use glitter, use a large paintbrush to spread an even amount of PVA glue over the surface of one side of your heart. Once this has dried properly, turn over your heart and repeat. If you want to build up the glitter, do another layer of glue and glitter on each side.
Top Tip! Glitter is notorious for making a bit of a mess. If you apply a layer of PVA glue over the top of your glitter, once it has dried it will seal it in place and you will have no mess!
ow it is time to have your ribbon ready! Cut a 40 cm piece of ribbon and fold it in half.
Using your glue gun, squeeze a pea size amount of glue to the very top of your polystyrene heart and place your ribbon on top. Once the glue has dried, use a pin to help secure your ribbon in place. Create a knot in your ribbon and then tie a bow.
