Knitcraft Water Garden CAL Week 4

This week we are working on more Hydrangea and Oriental Magnolia blocks. We will also be joining the blocks together so your blanket will start to come to life.

You Will Need Instructions

Yarn Colour References:

Yarn A – Green

Yarn B – Yellow

Yarn C – Denim Blue

Yarn D – Light Blue

Yarn E – White

 

Instructions

 For week four we will be making:

  • 9 yellow Hydrangea blocks (5)
  • 6 Oriental Magnolia blocks (6)

 

Joining

 We have joined our hexagons on the wrong side, slip stitching each block together using light blue yarn. You can use whatever joining method you prefer.

 

Join the 9 white Hydrangea blocks and the 9 yellow Hydrangea blocks, then join the Oriental Magnolias.

Knitcraft Cotton Blend in B, C, D & E

4mm crochet hook

Scissors

Tapestry needle

Abbreviations

 

slst – slip stitch

dc – double crochet

spc – starting popcorn

pc – popcorn

htr – half treble crochet

tr  treble crochet

dtr – double treble crochet

ttr – triple treble crochet

dc3tog – double crochet three together

 

 

Method

 Using yarn B/E chain 4 and slst to form a loop. (If you prefer you can make a magic circle)

 

Round 1

Ch1 (does not count as st) 12 dc into the loop.

Slst into top of first dc. (12dc)

 

Round 2

Continue with yarn B/E ch3 (counts as tr), work

a spc in the same st. *ch2, skip st, work pc into

next st** Repeat from * to ** a further 5 times.

Ch2 and slst into the ch at the back of the first pc.

(6pc)

 

Round 3

Continue with yarn B/E, slst into the first ch2

space. Ch3 (counts as tr) work a spc into the

same space. *Ch2, work pc in same space, ch2,

work pc into next ch2 space**

Repeat from * to ** a further 5 times.

Ch2 and slst into the ch at the back of the first

  1. (12 pc)

 

Round 4

Continue with yarn B/E, slst into the first ch2

space. Ch3 (counts as tr) work a spc into the

same space. *Ch2, work pc in same space, ch2,

work pc into next ch2 space**

Repeat from * to ** a further 5 times.

Ch2 and slst into the ch at the back of the first

pc, fasten off yarn B/E (24 pc)

 

Round 5

Join yarn E/C into any ch2 space. Ch4 (counts

as htr and ch2) htr into same space (corner

created) *work 2 htr into next ch2 space, 3 times,

htr, ch2, htr into the next ch space**

Repeat from * to ** a further 5 times. Slst into the

second ch of the initial ch4.

Fasten of yarn E/C (6 ch2 spaces, 48htr)

 

Round 6

Join yarn D into any ch2 space. Ch3 (counts as

tr), 2 tr in same space. *tr in the next 8sts, 3tr in the ch2 space** Repeat from * to ** a further 5 times, slst into the third ch of the initial ch3. Fasten off yarn D and weave n any loose ends. (66tr)

Method

Round 1

Ch1 (does not count as a st) 12 dc into the loop. Slst into top of first dc.

Fasten off yarn B. (12 dc)

Round 2

Join yarn E into any st, spc. *ch2, skip next st, pc**

Repeat from * to ** a further 4 times. Ch2 and slst into top of first pc, fasten off yarn E. (6 pc)

 

Round 3

Join yarn A into any ch2 space, ch3 (counts as tr) tr2tog, ch3 tr3tog *ch3, in next ch space tr3tog, ch3, tr3tog**

Repeat from * to ** a further 4 times, ch3 and slst to join. Fasten off yarn A (6 sets of 2 leaves)

Round 4

Join yarn E between any pair of leaves above a pc.

Ch1, 2dc in same space, * in next ch space work 3tr, picot, 3tr, in next space work 2dc*  

Repeat from * to ** a further 5 times, eliminating the last 2dc repeat, slst into the first dc to join.  Fasten of yarn E (6 large petals)

Round 5

Join yarn C to the first tr after any picot. Ch1 *dc , 2htr, 2tr, 2htr 1dc, ch2 (behind picot)**

Repeat from * to ** a further 5 times.  Slst into the first dc of the round. Fasten off yarn C.

 

You may find it easier to ch2 and work in front of your picot, that’s ok as you can always poke it to the front after.

 

Round 6

 Join yarn D to the top of any picot.

Ch3 (counts as tr) work 2 tr into the same st

*1tr into each of the next 8 sts, skp the ch2 behind the picot and work 3tr into picot**

Repeat from * to ** a further 5 times, eliminating the last 3tr into picot.

Slst into the top of initial ch3, fasten off yarn D and weave in any loose ends. (66 tr)
