How to Make Travel-themed Snail Mail
There’s nothing better than receiving an unexpected handmade parcel in the post. This snail mail project documents a recent holiday, however yours could be a birthday celebration, graduation or new baby, the possibilities are limitless!
Simply create the base folder using the instructions below and decorate; be sure to add in lots of your lovely photos, hand journaling and memorabilia to make sure this once in a lifetime occasion is remembered for years to come.
- To create the base folder for the Snail Mail, trim an A3 sheet of white cardstock down to 41.2(W) x 20(H)cm. With the piece of card in a landscape orientation score and fold vertically at 10, 10.3, 20.3, 20.6, 30.6, 30.9 and 40.9cm.
2.Cover the back panels of the folder with your choice of patterned cardstock, making sure to score in exactly the same place as the white cardstock your are applying it to.
3. With the patterned side facing up, use a craft knife to make a small incision on the second and third panels 10cm up from the bottom edge and 2cm from the right-hand score line on the third panel, and 2cm from the left-hand score line on the second panel.
4. Punch two circles from kraft card and mark the centre on each with a pencil, use the craft knife once more to make a small incision. Take one of the kraft circles and line the incision up with the hole made on the second panel, place a paper fastener through, and open up the arms to secure in place. Repeat on the third panel with the remaining kraft card disc. Wrap a 30cm length of twine around one of the paper fastener discs and secure with a knot.
5. Continue to decorate the folder with papers, stickers, ephemera and photo frames created using the We R Memory Keepers Punch Board. Add height to some of the embellishments using foam pads. Add hand journaling where necessary.
