These super cute ghost meringues are a fun sweet treat if your hosting a Halloween party, or why not package them in treat bags to give out to trick-or-treaters.

Give each meringue ghost they’re own personality by using the end of a knife to given them mouths and noses or even an unusual hair style. Let’s get making!

How to Make Ghost Meringues

Suitable for : Beginners

Time to allow : One hour 40 minutes total, comprising of –

  • Preparation time : Ten minutes
  • Baking time : One hour and 30 minutes

How to make

  1. Preheat oven to 90 degrees Celsius and line two baking trays with non-stick baking paper.
  2. With a perfectly clean mixer bowl and beater, beat egg whites until stiff peaks form. Add the vinegar and beat again.  Gradually add the icing sugar a table spoon at a time until the mixture becomes thick and glossy with stiff peaks.
  3. Place mixture in a piping bag fitted with a wide round nozzle. Pipe the ghosts using a swirl action onto the lined baking trays.
  4. Place two black edible balls for the ghost eyes or alternatively you could use a black food pen.
  5. Using the end of a knife carefully mark in each ghosts mouth.
  6. Bake for one hour and 30 minutes. Once this time is up, leave the oven door slightly ajar allowing the meringues to cool slowly, leaving until the meringues are completely cold before taking them out of the oven.
