How to Make a Stitched Shirt Card and Matching Gift Tag
Father’s Day is on the horizon, and what better way to present your gift than with this innovative and thoughtful stitched shirt card and matching gift tag?! Handmade cards add the perfect finishing touch to any gift.
Why not use floral fabrics and recreate the design with a peter pan style collar for an alternative twist?
Here, Carrie shows us how by treating the card like fabric, you can create this fantastically realistic design! Ensure to use and old sewing machine needle.

Gather a card blank with envelope and luggage label and pick the fabric you want to use.
Use your card blank as a template , draw the card blank with a pen and cut out.
Cut out a 2 inch wide rectangle in the length of your fabric square.
Press your fabric pieces with an iron.
Turn under the side edges of your 2 inch rectangle under by 1cm and press and position to hide the raw edges of the fabric. Place this onto the centre of your main fabric piece.
Pin in place and topstitch on either side.
Cut out a 3.5 inch square from the fabric. Fold in half and cut along the diagonal.
Turn under both short sides of the triangle pieces to hide the raw edges of the fabric and press.
Overlap the triangle to the top of the main piece of fabric to make up the collar. Pin in place.
Stitch in place and remove the pins as you go. Trim any excess threads and dog eared bits of fabric.
Sew your buttons down the rectangle section on the shirt.
Press under 1cm to hide the raw edges along the 4 sides of your shirt piece of fabric. Sew down the raw edges in contrasting or matching thread.
Position the shirt to the card blank and stitch down in place round all 4 corners.
How to Make the Label
Get your luggage label and write the recipients name at the top of the tag.
Use your luggage label as a template to draw round and then cut out.
This time we won’t be hiding the raw edges unless you want too. Lay the fabric on top your label and sew in place and trim any excess threads
Attached your twine of choice or you could reuse the ribbon from the fat quarter packaging.
