How to Decorate a Flat Hanging Ceramic Decoration

This year, why not create a set of hand decorated flat hanging ceramic decorations to decorate your tree? There are so many ways to decorate blank ceramics – take a look at the ideas below for inspiration!

You Will Need Craft Essentials

 

Minimal Calligraphy Star

1. Coat the star decoration in acrylic paint. You may need to paint several layers in order to get an even coverage.

2. Using a pencil, draw or trace the word “shine” onto the decoration. Try not to apply too much pressure, as an mistakes at this stage can be erased by rubbing out the pencil!

3. Re-trace your pencil lines with the red fineliner pen. Erase any stray pencil lines.

4.  If you want to, you can go back over your design with the pen to vary the width of your lines and create a calligraphy like style.

 

Topper Decoration Star

1. Select a topper of your choice – we have used stars

2. Use a glue gun or glue dots to stick the toppers to the star

Top tip! Try to evenly space the stars for an effective, well put together look.

 

Dipped Glitter Bauble

1. Paint the decoration in a muted colour of your choice and leave to dry

2. Paint half of the decoration using PVA glue

3. Shake biodegradable silver glitter over the glue

4. Shake the decoration so that the loose glitter falls off

5. Leave to dry

6. Write a name or festive word on the bauble using a chalk pen

Hand Stamped Glitter Star

1. Choose an ink pad in a colour of your choice, and an alphabet stamp set of your choice

2. Choose what you would like to write

3. Press the stamp down lightly on the ink pad, wiping away any excess ink around the edges

4. Press the stamp down lightly on the surface – try to ensure you leave enough room for the other letters!

5. Paint dots of glue for snow and a wavy line of glue at the bottom for settled snow

6. Shake biodegradable silver glitter over the glue

7. Shake the decoration so that the loose glitter falls off

8. Leave to dry

 

Brushed and Stamped Star

1. Choose an ink pad in a colour of your choice, and an alphabet stamp set of your choice

2. Choose what you would like to write

3. Press the stamp down lightly on the ink pad, wiping away any excess ink around the edges

4. Press the stamp down lightly on the surface – try to ensure you leave enough room for the other letters!

5. Paint dots of glue for snow  and shake biodegradable silver glitter over the glue

6. Shake the decoration so that the loose glitter falls off

7. Using a small, dry paintbrush, add quick marks onto the surface in colours of your choice that make it look like the letters are sparkling

8. Leave to dry

Stamped Metallic Bauble

1. Draw a geometric design lightly in pencil

2. Using a gold or silver paint pen, draw over the design and leave to dry

3. To embellish use small stamps to fill in the gaps. Press the stamp down lightly on the ink pad, wiping away any excess ink around the edges. Press the stamp down lightly on the surface.

 

Pink Snowflake

1. Paint the bauble in a colour of your choice and leave to dry

2. Paint dots of glue for snow and shake white biodegradable glitter over the glue

3. Shake the decoration so that the loose glitter falls off

4. Leave to dry

5. Add drops of silver metallic marker for falling snow
