Macrame Moon Wall Hanging

You Will Need How To Make
Cut 44 lengths of 3m long strings

Cut 1 length of 2m

  1. Hold the small embroidery hoop inside the large hoop, keeping one point together. Using the 2m length create a gathering knot around both hoops to secure them together. The knot should be approx. 8cm long.
  2. Fold each length in half and attached to the small hoop using the larks head knot. This should fill the edge of the small hoop.
  3. With the gathering knot on your right, begin attaching each length to the large hoop with a half hitch knot, starting at the bottom right of the small hoop. Repeat 16 times.
  4. With the next 4 strings, create a row of half square knots until the knot reaches the large hoop. Now attach these strings to the large hoop using the half hitch knot.
  5. Attach the next 6 strings to the large hoop using the half hitch knot.
  6. With the next 4 strings, work a row of square knots until the knot reaches the large hoop. Now attach these strings to the large hoop.
  7. Repeat in this way until all strings have been attached to the large hoop. You should have 6 plain strings in between a mixture of square knots and half square knots.
  8. Find the middle of the work where you will hang the piece from, leaving all loose strings at the back. The gathering knot should be on the right, at a right angle to the top.
  9. Gather up all strings that fall within the gap of the small hoop. Using a spare piece of string, create a gathering knot to sit in the centre of the small hoop.
  10. Now with the strings hanging down, create small groups of square and half square knots randomly along the bottom, below the hoop.
  11. Finish off by tying knots at random intervals for added detail.
  12. Cut your strings to the desired length.
