How to Crochet a Granny Square Beach Cover Up

Designed by @craftycruella, this beach cover up is a must for your next visit to the beach or pool, the classic granny stripe, gives it a airy feel and creates a simple yet gorgeous look.

It really is an easy project suitable for a beginner and to make things even easier and to stop the beginning chain and first row being too tight I start with a 7mm hook and change to a 6mm hook on row 2.

I also work into the back bumps of my chain.  Its not essential, I just prefer the finished look.

This can be found by twisting the chain towards you, the bump is the visible bump sticking up at the back.

You Will Need Abbreviations

Ch – chain

Sl st – slip stitch

St – stitch

Dc – double crochet – insert hook into next stitch, yarn over pull through stitch, yarn over pull through two loops on your hook.

Tr – treble crochet – yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over pull through stitch, yarn over pull through two loops, yarn over pull through two loops.

Fpdc – Front post double crochet – insert hook in to the front, around the back of the double crochet post and out to the front, yarn over, pull through, yarn over, pull through two loops.

Cluster – Three treble crochet worked into the same space. (or ch3 & 2tr)

Htr – yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over pull through stitch, yarn over pull through all three loops.

Size Guide: (ch in multiples of 3 +2)

Width – measure around your bust, halve it and add 10cm

Length – measure from shoulder to desired length (somewhere between bum and knee)
