The great thing about using decoupage as a way to upcycle an object is that if you decide in a few months time that you want a new look, you can simply either add some embellishments on top of your papers, such as buttons or gems, or stick on new decorative papers on top of the old.

How to make

  1. Cut paper into squares and rectangles of random size.
  2. Generously spread glue onto the lamp base and use the paintbrush to pick up and position squares.
  3. Cover the lamp with more glue to fix the paper into position.
  4. For curved areas make one centimetre snips into the patch before applying for a neater finish.
  5. Continue until the entire surface is covered.
  6. Wrap a two centimetre wide strip of paper around the neck of the lamp to finish off the edges neatly.
