Pink Lemonade Paper Straws

As part of our welcome drink I decided to offer our guests some pink homemade lemonade in jam jars as an arrival drink, to make it fit in with out theme I decided to create my own paper straws.

I selected some paper straws to match my overall colour scheme and decided they would look unique with my own personal flags attached to each straw.

You will need

How to make

1. To work out the size of each custom made flag I placed one into a jam jar to work out the height of which the straw sat and measured enough size to be able to suck out of the straw still. Now I had the size of each flag’s width I then used my own decision on the length of each flag.

2. To create the flags I used an A4 sticker pack of multi-use labels which can be used with an inkjet printer. When designing each personal flag I still used my colour scheme but also some of my original images I created with my wedding invitations.

3. I made a template up on my computer and started designing. If you do not have access to a computer it would be just as effective to draw on each of the labels. Each design I reflected onto to one side of the flag so that I ended up with two images at either end of the rectangle.

4. Once all my flags were designed I printed them onto the A4 Sticker multi-use label and cut them out using scissors. I was then left with a long rectangle.

5. Carefully getting the paper straw I marked on with a pencil the location in which I wanted the sticker to sit. I peeled back the sticky label and wrapped it around the straw, making sure the middle of the rectangle met the paper straw first and then the rest of the flag.

I ended up getting carried away with how many I did but they looked great and everyone was really impressed with the way they looked, a small little touch to a drink but a lot of fun making them.

Cupcake Flags

To match the straw flags I created for my welcome drinks I wanted to create flags to go into my cupcakes that were going to sit alongside my wedding cake.

Again I stuck to my colour scheme with the icing and toppings for the cupcakes, after several trials myself and my mother in law Janice (who baked the cakes) got the colours just right.

To make them look even more unique I wanted to add an individual flag with my designs and wording.

You will need

  • Packet of cocktail sticks
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Packet of A4 multi-use labels
  • Computer, scanner and printer – you could use colouring pens if no computer is available
  • Pair of paper scissors

How to make

1. To work out the size of each custom made flag, I used a  wooden cocktail stick to gauge the size needed.

2. To create the flags I used an A4 mulit-use sticker pack which can be used with an inkjet printer.

3. Using the same process as with the paper straws I made a template up on my computer and started designing! Again, if you do not have access to a computer it would be just as effective to draw out each of the labels.

4. For each design I reflected it onto to one side of the flag so you ended up with two images either end of the rectangle.

5. Carefully getting the cocktail stick I peeled back the sticky label and wrapped it around the wooden stick making sure the middle of the rectangle met the wooden stick first and then the rest of the flag. I used wording to make it fun and totally unique to our big day, which proved incredibly popular with our guests!
