Valentines Day Baking Ideas

Heart-Shaped Sandwich Cookies

Suitable for : Beginners

Time : About one hour

Add a deliciously sumptuous touch to your romantic night with these clever heart sandwich cookies.

 

What you need :

How to make

  1. Bake a batch of cookies, half of which have a heart shaped hole in the centre.
  2. Roll a quantity of white sugarpaste to approximately 3 to 4 mm thickness. TIP: Work on greaseproof paper to make picking up the icing shapes easier.
  3. Use the same round cookie cutter you used for the cookies to cut a circle of icing for each sandwich.
  4. Repeat with the red and pink icing.
  5. Moisten the outer .5cm of each icing disc with water on both sides before gently but firmly sandwiching between each pair of cookies (Be sparing with the water!)

Hints and tips

Before baking, you can colour half the batch of cookie mix with a little rose coloured food colouring paste to give a two-tone effect.

Heart Cupcakes

These gorgeous cupcakes will make your special occasion heartfelt and very tasty!

Suitable for : Beginners

Takes : About one hour

 

You will need

How to Make

  1. Roll a quantity of white sugarpaste to approximately 3 to 4 mm thickness.
  2. Use a round cookie cutter that matches the cake size to cut tops for the cakes and place gently but firmly on top.
  3. Use heart cutters to cut the decorations from the offcuts.
  4. Repeat with the red and fuchsia icing.
  5. Moisten the back of each heart with water before placing on top of each cake. (Be sparing!).
  6. Place each cake into a cupcake wrap to finish.

Hints and tips

Work on greaseproof paper to make picking up the cut out icing shapes easier.
