Upcycling is a continuing trend for 2015, particularly when it comes to fashion and giving clothing a new lease of life. If you’re not that confident with using a sewing machine yet, sew-on beads, buttons and gems are a great, quick and easy way of breathing new life into something that was destined for the charity shop.

Time to allow: Two to three hours (dependent on sewing skills and the amount of bling you want to add)

How to make

2. Choose your sew-on stones there are six colour options of these packs – I chose Smoke and Champagne. Then decide which stones you want to use.

3. Measure the width of the area you want to embellish to find the middle.

4. Once you’ve found the middle, position your first centre stage stone and sew in place. All the subsequent stones that you sew on will be positioned on the basis of this first stone, so make sure to spend time in getting it in the correct position.

5. Once you have sewn on the middle stone, then sew on the corner stones. These stones act as your anchor points and help to ensure you get a symmetrical layout.

6. Then sew on the stones that sit between the middle and corner stones in your desired pattern.

Here’s the end result! A beautiful jumper with a new lease of life, very on trend and very inexpensive versus buying one ready made!

Top Tip…

NB – The above jumper was put through a 30 degree wash and the stones remained in tact and looked the same as they did before the wash.
