Three Ways to Use Picture Beads

Three Ways to Use Picture Beads #PictureBeads

Picture beads have always fascinated me, I can’t ever recall using them when I was younger, and I have been itching to have a go at experimenting with them. There’s so much you can do, from coasters to wall art, gift tags to placemats the possibilities are endless. And they’re not just for kids either . . .

Picture Bead Coaster

You will need Craft Essentials How to make

1. Using a square picture bead board, lay out your beads in a square shape and then start to fill in with the beads. For my design I chose a sunset, but you can do whatever design you like. Just remember your design will be reversed when complete. So if you incorporate any writing into your design, make sure to write it out backwards!

2. Once happy with your design, cover with greaseproof paper and then go over with an iron on the maximum heat setting (adult help and supervision will be needed here!). Run the iron over the design for a minute or so.

3. Leave to cool, and then remove the greaseproof paper, and the carefully remover the design from the board. You may find that your coaster curls up slightly, simple leave under a heavy book for an hour or so.

5. Cut a piece of card 2 millimetres smaller than the size of your frame, and glue to the back of the frame on both of the sides and the bottom using a strong adhesive (I used a glue gun but you could also use tacky glue). Make sure to leave the top of the cardboard un-glued as this will allow you to insert your photo into the frame.

6. Glue the flower in place on the front of the frame, making sure that the glue only goes onto the frame and not the cardboard, otherwise you will not be able to insert your picture fully.

7. Cut a triangular piece of card with a 1 centimetre tab, and score using a pair of scissors. Attach to the back of the frame with strong adhesive. Leave to dry.
