New York Fashion Week Overview #new #york #fashion #week #crochet #knitting

Fashion week has landed in New York and it has bought a whole collection of new ideas with it. Knitwear is never the main feature of the Spring/Summer catwalks but that doesn’t mean they are not knit worthy!

I have broken down the key knit looks for next Spring Summer so you can start planning your stash now. It’s never to early to start planning your holiday knitting.

New York Fashion Week Overview

Bold stripes

Opening Ceremony went bold with their stripes this season. From midi length dresses to fitted jumper with varied stripes, anything goes. This is a great way to use up your left over colours from old projects. As long as the tension is the same with all the yarns, they will be perfect to create a bold striped jumper. Or if you want to plan out your stripes a bit more then try our WI Premium Acrylic yarn as it comes in a great range of colours and will mean you can wear it now and it will still feel new for spring.

Thick White

Crisp white summer knits are great for the British Summer time. It keeps your look fresh but won’t leave you freezing on the seafront. My favourite piece is the white jumper from Kate Spade with the added tassels around the neck and hem. Never made a tassel before? Try using a tassel maker to make sure each one comes out the same size.

Frame Denim and Ulla Johnson have added texture to their summer knits by adding in plush stripes. Try mixing Sirdar’s Touch with their Cotton Rich yarn to create the same effect. It’s a really easy way to add in texture without using a stitch making it perfect for a quick knit.

Feminine White

A complete contrast to the chunky white knit is the lace white knit. Think pretty pointelle designs, ruffles and lace holes. Rowan Super Fine Merino would be perfect for these delicate knits and come in a lovely pastel colour palette. This isn’t a quick project though, so if you want it in time for spring you might want to start knitting it soon! feminine white

Novelty Knits

A novelty knit is always a favourite of mine. Last season it was all about cats but this time around it seems to be a bit more varied. The Kate Spade camel is a must in my book and I love the addition of the tassels! If you are not used to working with different colours then try the Ultimate Knitting Bible. It will give you a step by step guide of working using different colours and in no time you will be on your way to creating your own knitting novelty. If you want something ready quickly then try out our Squirrel Christmas jumper to get you ahead of the trend. novelty

The Cricket Jumper

The cricket jumper is a classic and should be a staple in your wardrobe. I love the vibrate colours of Rag and Bones update and the shoulder patches from Kendall + Kylie. Or if you are a bit more of an advanced knitter, try working a deconstructed cable inspired by Band of Outsiders. I would recommend using WI Soft and Smooth for this project as it wont drop like a cotton yarn but will knit up quickly and comes in some great colours. cricket jumpers
