1. Start by cutting (or if you prefer) ripping the decoupage papers. I cut mine into squares and rectangles but you can do them whatever shape you like.

2. Start to cover the elephant in your chosen papers. Start by applying a thin layer of glue on the elephant, then apply your paper and then add a thin layer of glue over the top.

3. Continue to add the papers in this way until the entire elephant is covered.

4. Once covered leave to dry.

Top Tip!…You may need to cover your elephant in two stages, covering the base of the feet last, as he may well end up sticking to the surface you are decorating him on.

More Inspiration!…

If you didn’t want to cover the entirety of the mache shape in decoupage papers, you could just cover certain sections. For the crococile below, I decided to cover his belly in decoupage papers and then used paint to decorate the remaining areas . . .

You Will Need How to Make

1. Start by covering all of the areas of the crocodile that you would like painted and leave to dry. For my crocodile I used quite a thin paint as I wanted some of the brown colour of the mache to show through, but if you wanted more of an even coverage simply apply more coats of paint (make sure to leave the paint to dry in between coats!)

Top Tip!…Make sure to paint roughly one to two centimetres of the area where you intend to place the paper just in case the area doesn’t quite get covered.

2. Once dry start covering the underside of the crocodile with your chosen decoupage papers. I cut my decoupage papers using scissors, but you could tear them by hand if you prefer.

3. Start by applying a thin layer of glue on the crocodile underside, then apply your paper and finish with a thin layer of glue over the top.
