Hello fellow crafters, I am super duper over the moon to be joining you all on the Hobbycraft blog today to share some tips and tricks on making the most beautiful wedding invitations, table settings and ‘save the date’ cards using the most fabulous foiling machine which is new in Hobbycraft stores this season! I’m sure I’m not only speaking for myself when I say that I am a complete sucker for anything shiny and foiled – the amount of notebooks I have in my stash with gold foil lettering is ridiculous. This new First Edition Craft foiling machine is enough to make anyone lure over the sheer simplicity and easy technique. It helps you create the most beautiful lettering in the matter of seconds. It goes without saying that this machine will come in handy on numerous occasions; make the perfect birthday cards, send a cheery ‘get well soon’ card or even give some bespoke WOW factor to your business cards to make them stand out in style. Today I am sharing some nifty ideas to make your wedding literally ‘shine’ with some personalised invitations and place settings.

To start with, you need to type and plan a template that you wish to be printed. I can be terribly indecisive with picking which fonts to choose but ‘pssst’, you can download the most amazing brush lettering fonts for FREE from Dafont, 1001 fonts and Fontspace. I recommend to either use Microsoft Powerpoint or Keynotes as both of these platforms are very equipped for allowing you to drag and drop images or text wherever you wish. Below is an example of what one of my sheets looked like.

When you’re totally happy with the layout (I suggest printing on regular paper beforehand to make sure it’s correct!), print out your template with your laser ink printer on to your chosen piece of card.

To give your print offs that shiny touch, simply cut out a piece of foil to the size you need and layer it over the ink sections with the shiny side facing upwards. Switch on the machine and wait for the green ‘ready’ button to light up, then use the machine like a laminator and gently push your paper into the gap. You will feel the machine grip your paper and it will begin sliding through – this is when the magic happens!

When the card has worked its way through the machine completely, it’s time to peel off the foil to reveal the new look. You can see that the foil has a negative to the card with the ink sections cut out – which of course could then be used for more crafty antics too!

With these little name tags I created personalised straws – such a great idea for adding a personal touch to the table settings.

As you can imagine, once I had started I really didn’t want to stop! The possibilities are endless with this machine and I began experimenting with different techniques. I started by printing a layout for an invitation, then carefully cut out sections of the ink that I didn’t want to be foiled. It makes such a great contrast and really highlights the text.

I made a collection of different cards to complete an invite, then kept it all together in a personalised pocket – which was also foiled of course!

I found the perfect luggage label template, and used that to create reservation labels to attach to chairs.

One hole punch later and a little extra addition of some cream ribbon and the labels were complete!

I also experimented with printing on to black card and the results were amazing. Believe me when I say that it is extremely satisfying pulling off the foil to reveal the shiny typography, especially when printed on black card!

With this in mind, I found a great ‘brush stroke’ image then layered white font on top to create a negative version. Using gold foil on black paper I created this cute little ‘save the date’ card and attached a pencil tied with ribbon and the caption ‘Pencil us in’!
