Hello there! We’re Tia and Laura from Little Button Diaries. This month’s project is a scary (ish) batch of pumpkin cake pops – perfect for getting your little ones in the kitchen and creating some easy peasy Halloween party treats.

How to Make Pumpkin Cake Pops

You Will Need

Makes 20 cake pops

  • Four ounces of sugar
  • Four ounces of margarin
  • Four ounces of self-raising flour
  • Three eggs

For the decoration :

1. Begin by preheating the oven to 180 degrees. Then place all the cake ingredients into a mixing bowl and mix together.

2. To prepare the cake moulds, lightly coat with oil and flour. Then fill the bottom of the cake pop mould one third of the way up with cake mixture and place the other half of the mould on top.

3. Put the pops in the oven and bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown. Take the mould out of the oven and allow the cake balls to completely cool. Then gently remove the top mould releasing the cake balls. Place in the fridge for two hours to firm up or 15 minutes in a freezer.

4. Remove from the fridge or freezer, and melt the candy melts following the instructions on your packet. We melted ours over a bain marie.

5. Dip the lollipop sticks into the melted chocolate to coat the top inch of the stick, then insert into your cake pops.

6. Dip the pop into the melted chocolate and cover the cake completely.

7. Next, either melt green candy melts or mix blue food colouring into the remainder of the orange candy mixture to create green. Once the chocolate on the pops has dried, drizzle the green chocolate on top using a teaspoon to form the stem.

8. Use black icing to decorate your pumpkins with a spooky face. Lay them flat on their back to allow their faces to dry and pop in the fridge for the icing to set. NB – we used a gel icing tube for this but we found that it ran slightly (a LOT!), so would recommend a black food pen instead!

All done!  If you don’t have a silicone mould, you can easily make cake pops by combining icing with cake and rolling with your hands.
