How to Make Decoden Stationery

Decoden is the latest trend on the crafting scene! Decoden involves using a glue/adhesive paste to secure all manner of embellishments.

The Decoden craze started over in Japan, where phone cases and tech are decorated in quirky embellishments, the more outlandish and colourful the better! Never one to miss out on a trend I’ve been decorating some stationery items using colourful DecoDen paste and embellishments.

How to make

1. I started off by painting my mache box so that it coordinated with my embellishments I was planning to use, once painted leave to dry.

2. Then select your colour choice of Decoden paste, there are five options (black, purple, pink, turquoise and white) – I went with white. I then decided to use the attachable nozzles so the paste would resemble icing, making the paste as decorative as the embellishments I planned to stick down.

3. Screw on the nozzle to the paste pack to secure it in place. Test using the paste and nozzle on a scrap piece of paper before moving onto your final piece, once you are happy using the nozzle and paste it’s time to start on the mache box.

4. Start piping your paste onto your final piece in your desired pattern.  To create my design, I used approximately three quarters of the tube of paste.

Once you’ve finished, remove the nozzle and clean it out for future use and screw the cap back on the  paste.

5. Once you have added your paste in your desired location, select your embellishments you wish to fix in the paste to embellish your base. It takes several hours for the paste to dry so you have time to slowly work up your design without risk of the paste drying out.

Simply stick down your embellishments to secure them in the paste, the paste will dry solid after several hours so it’s secure enough to stand your embellishment up right if you so wish to create a more three dimensional design rather than sitting them down flat.

Alongside sticking the Decoden flatbacks to the paste, beads, buttons, glitter and much more also adhere making the possibilities endless!

Even More Inspiration!

I had left over embellishments from my Bling packs which I used for some other stationery that was in need of some bling . . .

For both of these projects I used exactly the same method as the mache box . . .
