Washi tapes have been growing in popularity in papercraft for a number of years, they’re typically low tack, decorative tapes, kind of like masking tape, but a lot prettier and available in an array of colours and designs.

These decorative tapes are typically used by papercrafters for card making and scarpbooking projects, however you could use them to decorate mache letters, or apply to brown kraft paper roll to make your own gift wrap, the possibilities are endless!

Washi Tape Bunting

I do love a bit of bunting, and washi tape bunting looks really effective on a scrapbook page. It’s really quick and easy to make and there are lots of different variations for you to make an individual and unique scrapbook page every time.

You Will Need

How to Make

1. Start by folding a six centimetre strip of tape in half.

2. Using a pair of scissors cut a ‘v’ shape in the bottom (unfolded) edge.

3. Using a pencil draw two curved overlapping lines on your scrapbook page. Alternatively you could use twine stuck down with tacky glue.

4. Stick down the bunting flags with a small amount of double sided tape on the back.

5. Finish off your page with a paper toppers. I then used alphabet stickers for my page title (as my handwriting isn’t the best!) as they’re really quick and easy to use, plus the stickers that I used complimented the washi tapes nicely.

Washi Tape Overlays

As washi tape is semi-transparent it’s great for overlaying on top of images, as you can still partially see the image through it.

You Will Need

How to Make

1. For this scrapbook page I started by securing the image centrally on the page with some double sided tape and then applied the tape.

2. Next, I positioned the buttons and flowers on to the page. Once happy with the positioning I then secured them in place with a glue dot. Simple as that!

How to Make

If you wanted a less permanent alternative for securing your images into your sketchbook, tape can be used either on the corners or the sides of the image to secure it. Then if you decided to swap out the picture for something else in the not too distant future, you can simply peel away the washi tape, due to the low tack nature of the tape.
