Mark Heyes, from ITV’s Lorraine, has designed five festive hats to help you show your Hattitude for Text Santa this year and we helped to bring them to life. We’ve already gone through how to knit an amazing Santa Hat with a detachable beard but, if beards aren’t your thing…

How about a stand out reindeer beanie hat!

How to Make a Reindeer Beanie Hat

You Will Need

  • Brown Beanie hat
  • 50 g ball Red Wool
  • Stick on googly eyes
  • Pair of children’s gloves
  • 50 g ball of wool to match the gloves
  • Toy Filling Tacky Glue
  • Wool  needle
  • 4 cm diameter pom pom ring

How to Make

  1. Make up a red pom pom for the nose. Keep the wool length long that you have used to wrap around the pom pom when making it into a pom pom shape.
  2. Lightly stuff the gloves with toy filling – too much and they will be too heavy and flop. Place the base of the gloves on either side of the crown of the hat and sew in place with the matching glove wool using a button hole stitch.
  3. Position the pom pom in the centre front of the hat. Place the two long ends of wool (which you wrapped around  the centre of the pom pom to make it into a pom pom)  into a wool needle and place these ends through the hat and tie together to hold in position. Alternatively glue the pom poms into position.
  4. Glue the googly eyes just above the nose and close together. If this hat is for a young child then use the sew on googly eyes and make sure they are securely stitched in place to prevent a choking hazard.

Text Santa raises money and awareness for six UK based charities offering life-changing services to people near you. This year’s chosen charities are Age UK, Barnardo’s, BeatBullying, British Heart Foundation, CLIC Sargent and Help the Hospices.

Ant and Dec, Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby and Christine Bleakley and Paddy McGuinness are the presenter line-up for Text Santa, ITV’s annual charity appeal, broadcasting on Friday 20 December.

Text Santa is an important part of ITV’s Corporate Responsibility programme, using its reach to millions of people to help inspire, engage and empower viewers to make a difference. The organisation does not make any profit from the appeal and is proud that, with investment from ITV and support from Text Santa’s partners and supporters, 100 percent of donations made by viewers go directly to the charities Text Santa supports.
