How To Knit A Reflective Hat

Make sure you are seen this winter by making this cable hat using Rico Glow Worm. The yarn has a reflective thread running throughout which lights up when light hits it. Designed by @lostinknit

You Will Need Abbreviations

K- Knit

P- Purl

Sts- Stitches

C6B – Slip next 3 sts onto cable needle and hold at back of work, k3, then k3 from cable needle

Cr3L cross 3 left: slip next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold at front of work, p1, then k2 from cable needle

Cr3R cross 3 right: slip next st onto cable needle and hold at back of work, k2, then p1 from cable needle

Cr5L cross 5 left: slip next 3 sts onto cable needle and hold at front of work, p2, then k3 from cable needle

Cr5R cross 5 right: slip next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold at back of work, k3, then p2 from cable needle

How To Make

With 7mm needles and yarn A cast on 60 sts

Row 1: K1, P1, repeat to end

Repeat row 1 for a further 5 rows

Change to yarn B and begin to work in pattern as follows-

Row 1: K21, P2, K3, P8, K3, P2, K21

Row 2: P21, K2, P3, K8, P3, K2, P21

Row 3: K21, P2, Cr5L, P4, Cr5R, P2, K21

Row 4: P21, K4, P3, K4. P3, K4, P21

Row 5: K21, P4, Cr5L, Cr5R, P4, K21

Row 6: P21, K6, P6, K6, P21

Row 7: K21, P6, C6B, P6, K21

Row 8: P21, K6, P6, K6, P21

Row 9: K21, P4, Cr3R, Cr3L, P4, K21

Row 10: P21, K4, P3, K4, P3, K4, P21

Row 11: K21, P2, Cr3R, P4, Cr3L, P2, K21

Row 12: P21, K2, P3, K8, P3, K2, P21

Work rows 1-12 twice

Next Row (RS): *K1, K2tog* rep to end (40sts)

Work 1 row

Next Row: K2tog, rep to end (20sts)

Work 1 row

Next Row: *K2, K2tog* rep to end (15sts)

Work 1 row

Next Row: *K1, K2tog* rep to end

 

Cut yarn and using a darning needle thread the yarn through the remaining sts and pull tight.

With RS facing, sew the seam together using mattress stitch.

Sew in all ends.

Using a 45mm pompom maker and yarn A, make a pompom.

Secure the pompom to the top of the hat.
