How To Crochet A Tinsel Cushion

Love tinsel yarn but not sure what to make with it? Why not try making this crochet cushion designed by @sfmgs

You Will Need

6mm crochet hook

 

Yarn:

A – 1 x WI Soft & Chunky Cream

B – 4 x All That Glitters 50g/65m Tinsel Yarn Copper

 

18″ x 18″ cushion pad

Yarn Needle

Stitch Markers

 

Finished size:

16″ x 16″

 

Gauge:

R1 – 3 = 4″

Abbreviations

tc = treble crochet (US double)

htc = half treble crochet  (US hdc = half double crochet)

ch = chain

St = stitch

st sp = stitch space – space between individual crochet stitches

sl st = slip stitch

FO = fasten off

SP-2 = spike stitch over 2 rows: spike stitch is an elongated st. For SP-2 in this pattern, instead of inserting your hook directly into the row below, yarn over and insert the hook into the 2nd row below and complete the stitch as a tc.

How To Make

R1: With yarn A, magic loop and ch3 as 1st tc.

(2tc, ch2) into the loop.

Rpt [3tc, ch2] 3 times into the loop. Tighten and join with sl st.

 

R2: sl st into ch-2 sp. Ch2 as 1st htc.

SP-2 through centre of magic loop. Ch2.

(SP-2 through centre of magic loop, htc) into same ch-2 sp

Htc next 3 st.

Rpt [(htc, SP-2, ch2, SP-2, htc) into ch-2 sp, 3htc] 3 times to end. Join with sl st and FO.

 

R3: Join yarn B into any ch-2 sp. Ch3 as 1st tc.

Tc next 3 st.

(2tc, ch2, 2tc) into next st, 3tc.

Rpt [tc into ch-2 sp, 3tc, (2tc, ch2, 2tc), 3tc] 3 times to end. Join with sl st and FO.

 

R4: Join yarn A into any ch-2 sp. Ch2 as 1st htc.

FINISHING:

 

Sew/weave in any loose ends.

 

PHOTO 1

 

Lay work flat with WS facing and with corners sitting at 12, 3, 6, and 9 on a clockface.

 

Fold in 3 corners to the centre to form an envelope shape. Insert stitch markers to secure. With yarn needle and yarn B, sew together using invisible seam.

 

Insert cushion pad, taking care to align corners.

 

Fold remaining corner into the centre and secure with stitch markers. With yarn needle and yarn B sew together to seal. Sew/Weave in ends.
