How To Crochet A Floral Baby Blanket

You Will Need Abbreviations

CH = chain

DC = double crochet

TR = treble

DTR = double treble

Ch sp = chain space

Sl st = slip stitch

How To Make

Ch 115

Row 1 – 1 DC in 11th ch from hook, *5 CH, skip 3 ch, 1 DC in next ch, repeat from * to end, turn.

Row 2 – CH 5, skip first dc, 1 DC in ch 5 sp, *skip 1 dc, 7 TR in next ch 5 sp, skip 1 dc, 1 DC in next ch 5 sp, CH 5, skip 1 dc, 1 DC in next ch 5 space, repeat from *, ending 1 DC in last ch sp, 2 CH, 1 TR in 6th ch (counting from the last dc of previous row) turn.

Row 3 – CH 6, [skip 1 tr, 2 ch, 1 dc, 1tr], *1 DC in next tr (the 2nd of 7), CH 5, skip 3 tr, 1 DC, in next tr (the 6th of 7), CH 5, [skip 1tr, 1dc] 1 DC in ch 5 sp, CH 5, [skip 1 dc, 1 tr], repeat from *, ending 1 DC under ch 5, turn.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until you have completed 85 rows (be sure to end after working a Row 3). Do not fasten off as you will now work the border.

 

Border

Round 1 – (3 TR, 1 CH, 3 TR) in corner space, you will now work your stitches into the end of the rows as you work along the side of the blanket, *(CH 5, 1 DC into ch 5 space) continue from* until 41 ch 5 made, (3 TR, 1 CH, 3 TR) into next corner space, *(CH5, 1 DC in next ch sp) continue from * until 27 ch 5 and dc made, (3 TR, 1 CH, 3 TR) in corner space, *(CH 5, DC into sp created at end of row by earlier tr stitch, CH 5), continue from * until 41 ch 5 made, (3TR, CH 1, 3 TR) in corner space, CH 5, sl st into base of next ch 5  (at the beginning of the row at the top of blanket).

Round 2 – (Sl st into ch 5 space, CH 3, 4 TR) in same space, *DC in next ch 5 sp, CH 5, DC in next ch 5 sp, repeat working DC in last but one ch 5 sp of row, 5 TR in next ch 5 sp, (3 TR, CH 1, 3 TR) in ch 1 of corner sp, 5 TR in ch 5 sp, repeat from * around finishing sl st in top of beginning ch 3.

Round 3 – CH 4, 4 DTR in top of next 4 tr, *CH 1, 5 DTR in ch 5 sp, repeat from * to last 5 ch sp of row, 5 DTR in ch 5 sp, CH 1, DTR in top of next 5 tr, 10 DTR in ch 1 sp, DTR in next 5 tr, repeat from * around finishing with sl st in top of beginning ch 4.

Fasten off.

Flowers – make 12

Note – leave a longer yarn length when making your slip knot which will help with stitching the flowers in place later on.

CH 8, join with sl st to form a ring.

Round 1 – CH 6 (counts as 1 tr, 3 ch), *1 tr into ring, 3 ch repeat from * 7 times, join with sl st into top of ch 3. (8 tr made)

Round 2 – Sl st into ch 3 sp, *(1 DC, 2 CH, 3 TR, 2 CH, 1 DC) in same sp, repeat from * in each ch 3 sp around. (8 petals made).

Round 3 – Work BEHIND petals, *5 CH, miss 1 petal, 1 DC in top of next tr of round 1, repeat from * around. (8 5ch loops made).

Round 4 – *(1 DC, 2 CH, 5 TR, 2 CH, 1 DC) in next 5 ch loop (behind the petals), repeat from * until all 5 ch loops worked. (8 petals).

Round 5 – As you did in round 3, work BEHIND petals, *7 CH, miss next petal, 1 DC in next dc of round 3, repeat from * until 8 7ch loops made.

Round 6 – *(1DC, 2 CH, 7 TR, 2 CH, 1 DC) in next 7 ch loop (behind petals), repeat from * until all 7 ch loops worked. (8 petals).

Once all the flowers are completed you are ready to plan how to arrange them on your blanket. When happy with their placement pin into place and secure by sewing on to blanket.
