Your Handmade Wedding – Invites and RSVP’s

Wedding invitations are an important part of your big day so getting them right is key. They can make your guests feel special to be invited and they be how ever crazy you want them to be as it is your big day.

I based my wedding invitations and RSVP’s around my colour scheme and theme of my wedding. After choosing the location of our big day and organising the times and dates, I set to work.

I wanted to create A5 invitations along with a matching smaller RSVP’s so my theme followed through all my stationery. My chosen colour theme was pinks and blues, seaside based colours. My overall theme was country bohemian meets surf. I wanted my stationery to be very unique and to represent everything that Martyn and I love.

How to make

1. I started by hand drawing our pet dogs, Roxy and Rolo, drawing a veil and bouquet of flowers on Roxy and a bow tie on Rolo. I then included an illustration of my surfboard on top of my Land Rover Defender, and added our three chickens (Dallas, Amber and Wednesday) all with matching bridesmaid veils on top of the surfboard. The sea also needed to feature in the illustration as both of us love, and spend, so much time either in or by the sea.

Bunting was my favourite decoration that I had planned to make for our wedding, so I also illustrated that as well. It’s best to choose something that you both love and represent you as a couple.

2. After all my drawings were complete, I scanned them into my Mac and used Adobe illustrator to re-draw over them and colouring them in my chosen colours.

3. Fonts are something I feel quite passionate about too, I am not a “Times New Roman” person, so with the help of Pinterest and free font websites, I sourced some funky wedding fonts. I then added the text to the invitation and the RSVP.

4. I then created a square parcel tag (also using Adobe illustrator) making sure that the same illustrations were used.

5. Once I was happy with the wedding invitations, RSVP’s and the parcel tag l then sent all three items away to a local printers where they printed and cut each page to the sizes I was after.

6. I needed envelopes to post my invitations in and also a pre-labelled manila envelope – to ensure my RSVP’s came to the right place. I used C5 and C6 envelopes.

7. Once I had all the invites back from the printers each square parcel tag needed to be hole punched. I used a star craft punch in one corner on each of the tags.

8. Once I had my printed final invitations, RSVP’s, parcel tags and envelopes I proceeded to put them into piles. To finish them off I used blue twine and tied them into a parcel ready to be inserted inside the larger C5 envelopes.
