Face painting is great for children’s parties, or even as a rainy day afternoon of fun with the kids, but it can often be daunting knowing where to start!

Here are four easy face painting tutorials to get you started. The designs are easily adaptable so you could use different coloured face paints, or even add some glitter for a bit of extra sparkle!

How to Paint a Dog

 

You will need How to make
  1. Dip brush or sponge into water and work well into the colour to create a thin paste.
  2. Apply brown to the sides of the face and under the chin, using a sponge.
  3. Apply white down the middle of the face with a sponge, and feather out at the sides using the brush provided.
  4. Using the brush and black colour, draw on nose, mouth, whiskers and eye and fur detailing.

How to Paint a Tiger

You will need How to Make
  • Dip brush or sponge into water and work well into the colour to create a thin paste.
  • Apply yellow patches all over the face using a sponge.
  • Sponge brown onto the cheek bones and around the edge of the forehead. Using the brush, paint the nose black.
  • Line black around the eyes using the brush. Paint on the black mouth, whiskers and stripes using the brush.

How to Paint a Butterfly

You will need How to Make
  • Dip brush or sponge into water and work well into the colour to create a thin paste.
  • Add white around the eyes and across the cheeks using the sponge.
  • Using the brush and pink colour, draw a butterfly shape across the face. Colour in pink. Use the sponge to blend the pink into the white.
  • Add purple detailing using the brush and highlight with glitter.

How to Paint a Pirate

You Will Need How to Make
  1. Dip brush or sponge into water and work well into the colour to create a thin paste.
  2. Using the brush and white colour draw the bandana. Add black outline and detailing using the brush.
  3. Using the brush, draw on the black eye patch, moustache and beard detailing.
  4. Finish with red dots on the bandana using the brush.
