Welcome to the first part of the Christmas is… CAL designed by @wee_house_of_crochet and @lyndascraftroom. We are so excited to get started and we know you are too!

You Will Need Abbreviations

rs – right side
ws – wrong side
dc – double crochet
htr – half treble crochet
tr – treble crochet
dtr – double treble crochet
tch – turning chain
dc2tog – double crochet two together
dc3tog – double crochet three together
dtr2tog – double treble crochet two together
dtr3tog – double treble crochet three together
4dcpc – 4 double crochet popcorn
fpdtr – front post double treble crochet
fpdtr2tog – front post double treble crochet two together
trcl – treble cluster
Pattern notes
When joining in new yarn, join on last pull through of last stitch in previous colour
Popcorn stitches are worked on the wrong side, so the should ‘pop’ away from you

How To Make

Using yarn A and a 4mm crochet hook, ch146
Base row
1dc in second ch from hook, 1dc into each ch to end, turn. (145sts)
Row 1
ch1 (counts as 1dc), ignore st under ch, *1htr into next st, 1tr into next st, 3dtr into next st, 1tr into
next st, 1htr into next st, 1dc into next st. Rep from * to end, fasten off yarn A, turn.

Row 2
With yarn B, ch1, ignore st under ch, 1dc in next st (counts as dc2tog), 1dc in next 2 sts *3dc into
next st, 1dc in next 2 sts, over next 3 sts work dc3tog, 1dc in next 2 sts. Rep from * until last 5 sts,
3dc into next st, 1dc in next 2 sts, over last 2 sts work dc2tog, skip tch, turn.

Row 3
Rep row 2, fasten off yarn B.

With yarn A, ch4, ignore st under ch, 1dtr, in next st (counts as dtr2tog), *1tr in next st, 1htr in next
st, 1dc in next st, 1htr in next st, 1tr in next st**, over next 3 sts work dtr3tog. Rep from * ending the
last rep at **, over last 2 sts work dtr2tog, skip tch, turn.

ch1 (counts as 1dc), ignore st under ch, 1dc into each st to end, turn.

With yarn B, ch1, ignore st under ch, 1dc in next st (counts as dc2tog), 1dc in next 2 sts *3dc into
next st, 1dc in next 2 sts, over next 3 sts work dc3tog, 1dc in next 2 sts. Rep from * until last 5 sts,
3dc into next st, 1dc in next 2 sts, over last 2 sts work dc2tog, skip turning ch, turn.

Row 9
Rep row 8, fasten off yarn B.

Row 10
With yarn A, ch4, ignore st under ch, 1dtr, in next st (counts as dtr2tog), *1tr in next st, 1 htr in next
st, 1dc in next st, 1htr in next st, 1tr in next st**, over next 3 sts work dtr3tog. Rep from * ending the

Row 13
With yarn C, ch1 (counts as 1dc), ignore st under ch, 1dc in next st, *4dcpc in next st, dc in next 2
sts. Rep from * to end, fasten off yarn C, turn.

Row 14
With yarn A, 1ch (counts as 1dc), ignore st under ch, 1dc in each st to end, turn.

Row 15
ch3 (counts as 1tr), ignore st under ch, 1tr in each st to end, turn
Row 16
This round will be worked into the stitches of row 15 and row 14 creating the bases for our
diamonds.
ch1 (counts as 1dc), ignore st under ch, dc in next st, fpdtr around the third st of row 14, *skip 1tr
(the st behind the fpdtr), dc in the next 3tr of row 15, **FPDTR2tog ; This is two stitches in one, or
as we shall call it two legs. Place the first stitch or leg around the 1st fpdtr you have done. Now
working on R14, skip 3 stitches and place the second leg around the next stitch. Rep from * until
the last 4sts, 1dc in the last 4sts, turn.

Row 17
ch3 (counts as 1tr), ignore st under ch, 1tr in each st to end, turn.
Row 18
We are now going to add the tops to our diamonds.
Ch1, (counts as 1dc), ignore st under ch, dc in next 3sts
FPDTR2TOG; Placing first leg round fpdtr of R16 , and second leg around the next fpdtr2tog of
R16 (You are working round both of these stitches).
*Skip 1 stitch, 3dc, FPDTR2TOG; (working 1st leg round last fpdtr2tog and 2nd leg around next
fpdtr2tog of r16) * repeat from * to * until last 4 stitches. Skip 1st , 1dc in each of the last tr, turn.

Row 19
Ch1 (counts as 1dc), ignore st under ch, 1dc in each st to end, fasten off A, turn.
Row 20
Join yarn C, ch3 and 1tr at the base of the chain, *skip 2 st, 3tr in next st*. Rep from * to the last 3
sts, skip 2 sts, 2 tr in the last st. Fasten off C, turn.

Row 21
Join yarn B, Ch3 (counts as 1tr) ignore st under ch, work *3tr in between each group of 3tr from the
previous round* Rep from * to the last 2 sts, skip 1 sts, 1tr in the last st. Fasten of B, turn.

Row 22
Join yarn A, ch3 (counts a tr,) 1 tr into the base of ch3, skip to next gap between groups of 3tr’s,
*3tr into gap* rep from * to last 5 stitches, place 2tr into last stitch.

Ch1 (counts as 1dc), ignore st under ch, work 1dc in each st across to the end, turn.
Row 24
Ch3 (counts as 1tr), ignore st under ch, work 1tr in the next 3 sts. Work *htr, dc, htr, 4 x treble* Rep
from * to *until the last 6 sts. Work htr, dc, htr, tr x2 then 2tr in the last st. Fasten off A and turn.

Join yarn B, ch1 and 1dc in the same sp. Ch3 skip the next 5 sts, trcl, ch2 trcl (in the dc st from
R24 *ch3, skip 6sts, trcl, ch2, trcl in same stitch* Rep from * to * until the last 5 sts, skip 5 sts, dc in
last st, Fasten off B and turn. You should have 20 x love hearts

Row 26
We are now going to be working back into row 24, working over the ch sp in row 25 and directly
into the skipped sts in row 24.
Join yarn A, ch3 (counts as 1tr) skip st at base of chain, Working over the chain work 1 tr in next
three skipped sts in row 24, then 1htr , work a dc into the ch2 between the first set of trcl.
*Working over the chain work 1htr, 4tr, 1htr. Work a dc into the ch2 between the two trcl * repeat
from * to * until last 5 sts, work 1htr, 3tr over chain, 1tr in the last st, turn.

Row 27
Ch1 (counts as 1dc), ignore st under ch, 1dc in each st across (147) fasten off A and turn.
Row 28
Join yarn C, ch1 (counts as 1dc), ignore st under ch, 1dc in each st across, and turn.
Row 29
Ch 4, (counts as 1 tr and 1 ch) ignore st under ch, 1tr, ch1, skip st until the end. Fasten off C and
turn.
Row 30
Join yarn B ch1 and 1dc in the same st. *1tr into the missed st from row 28, 1dc in the next st of
row 29* Rep from * to * all the way across and turn
Row 31
Ch4, (counts as 1tr and 1 ch) ignore st under ch, 1 tr, ch1, skip st until the end, fasten off B and
turn.
Row 32
Join yarn C, ch1 and 1 dc in the same st *1tr into the missed st from row 31* Rep from *to* all the
way across and turn.
