Bertie the Bunny Crochet Pattern

You Will Need

Abbreviations :

  • dc = double crotchet
  • inc = increase
  • dec = decrease
  • ( ) = number of stitches at the end of each row count

The bunny is crocheted in the round unless otherwise stated.

Body

The body starts with crocheting a rectangular base then up the sides of the body working in the round.

  • Using white yarn Ch. 21
  • Row 1: dc in 2nd chain from hook and in each chain across (20)
  • Row 2 -7: ch 1, turn and dc in each stitch across (20)

Now the base is finished and you now begin to work the sides of the body

  • Row 8: with right side facing dc 7 stitches along edge of base (7)
  • Row 9: dc in each stitch across side of base (20)
  • Row 10: dc 7 stitches along the other edge of base (7)
  • Row 11: dc in each stitch across remaining side of base and join to 1st stitch (20)
  • Row 12: dc in each st all around ( 54)
  • Row 13 – 40: dc in each stitch around joining the first stitch to work continuously in the round . Use a stitch marker to count your rows. ( 54)

Change to Light Blue yarn

  • Row 41 – 47 : dc in each stitch all round joining to 1st stitch working continuously in the round. ( 54 )
  • Fasten Off. Stuff the body.

Ears (Make two)

Using Blue Stripes yarn

  • Row 1: Make a standard magic circle and dc 6 stitches

At the end of the following rows join to the first stitch to work continuously in the round.

  • Row 2: Make 1 inc in each stitch all round ( 12)
  • Row 3 – 4 : dc in each stitch all around (12)
  • Row 5 : 1 dc, 1 inc, all around ( 18)
  • Row 6 – 11 : dc in each stitch all around (18 )
  • Row 12: 2 dc, 1 inc, all around (24)
  • Row 13 – 18 : dc in each stitch all around ( 24 )
  • Row 19 : 2 dc, 1 dec, all around ( 18)
  • Row 20 – 24 : dc in each stitch all around (18)

Fasten off leaving a long tail to sew . do not stuff the ears.

Arms (Make Two)

Using White yarn

  • Row 1: Make a standard magic circle and dc 6 stitches

At the end of the following rows , join the first stitch to work continuously in the round.

  • Row 2: Make I inc in each stitch all around ( 12)
  • Row 3: I dc, 1 inc , all around (18)

change to blue multi colour yarn

  • Row 4: in back loops only dc in each stitch all around ( 18)
  • Row 5 – 6 : dc in each stitch all around ( 18)
  • Row 7: 1 dc , 1 dec, all around ( 12)
  • Row 8 – 20 : dc in each stitch all around (12)

Fasten off leaving a long tail to sew. stuff both arms.

Legs (Make Two)

Make the legs up exactly as for the arms extending the number of rows worked from Row 8 up to 30 rows.

Fasten off leaving a long tail to sew. stuff both legs.

Tail

Using white yarn

  • Make a pom pom – for the tail
  • Sew the lower edge of body together – positioning and sewing in the legs as you go along.
  • Position and attach the arms either side of the body.
  • Place and attach the ears .
  • Sew buttons for the eyes and using pink wool to sew nose detail
  • Complete Bertie Bunny by attaching the pom pom tail!
